Information Overload is not a Problem. It is a fact.
Clay Shirky explains that “Information Overload” is not a problem. It is a fact. It has existed ever since the printing press, and will constantly grow. The issue is that the methodologies and systems we use to filter information are breaking down.
In the past, it was simply inconvenient to send a letter to everyone you know telling them what you thought about last night’s TV show. Today, you can post something on Facebook during a commercial break and all of your friends instantly get that information. That inconvenience was a built-in filter most people relied on. Today, you have to manually filter that information out as you scan through your Facebook feed, Twitter feed, RSS feed, Email, etc.
Information overload will always be there, and will constantly get worse. Get used to it, and get better filters.
